Police Investigating Violent Video Showing Bullying Incident Over Ringtone

BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) – A bullying incident in the Chartiers Valley School District is getting a lot of attention.

Last week, Jess Berti posted a video on Facebook of her son being assaulted by another student at the high school.

In the video, Berti's 16-year-old son, Bryan, can be seen using a cell phone. Berti said he was setting a ringtone, which allegedly angered another girl.

The 15-year-old girl can be seen verbally confronting Bryan before slapping him in the face. She then starts to repeatedly punch the boy with a closed fist.

At no point in the video does Bryan fight back. Eventually, his female friend pulls the other girl away.

In all, the girl struck Bryan 18 times.

"It got her upset. I don't know why, she just snapped out," Bryan said. "She didn't like it, said if you play it again, I'm going to slap you. I said she can't tell me what to do, it's not her phone, so I played it again."

Brenda Waters: Why didn't you fight back?

Bryan: It's not right, I have morals, I can't hit a girl, I can't do it.

Berti will be filing assault charges.

"The hope is that we are going to be able to work with the juvenile court system and get this young lady some kind of counseling that will help her with anger management or whatever. I don't want to demonize this poor little girl," Berti said.

Berti said both of her sons have dealt with bullying, She is hoping that this incident will help to end bullying in the school.

The school released the following statement:

"There was an altercation at the high school. The situation was handled according to our school Code of Contact, which does not tolerate this type of behavior. The Collier Township police were notified and are handling the situation.  In addition, the police have been in touch with the victim and his family.  The district is continuing to investigate the situation, including what precipitated the incident. We always strive to be as transparent as possible. However, due to student confidentiality laws, we cannot provide any more specific details"
