Does It Really Do That? Fast Brite Lens Restore

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Does your car have headlights that look cloudy or foggy?

Fast Brite Lens Restore promises to restore your headlights to showroom new in just 30 seconds.

Don Holcombe is a man who knows cars. He's worked at CarXpress Auto Sales along Saw Mill Run Boulevard in Overbrook for 20 years. Lately, he's been noticing something about the vehicles driving onto the lot.

He says about 30 percent of them have yellowish-looking headlights.

"It cuts the vision down, it's hard to see at night with these," said Holcombe.

Don says car wash soaps and road salt are mostly to blame. Employees at CarXpress have a process for cleaning up the lights. They use a sander with a series of grits and then a polishing pad.

It takes about 30 minutes per headlight. It works great, but for the average person at home, we wondered is there an easier way. That's where Fast Brite comes in.

With Don's help, we decided to test it out on an old SUV.

Following the directions, we used the "step one" solution and the yellow side of the pad included in the Fast Brite kit.

Don gave it some muscle to smooth out the headlight. Although Don got a pretty good arm workout, the buffer pad wasn't very effective. We moved on to "step two" - a protectant and the blue side of the pad.

After a few minutes, Don took a clean towel and wiped the headlight.

In the end, we noticed a slight difference in the center of the headlight. When Don turned the headlights on, we noticed even more. We repeated the entire process, which took a lot longer than 30 seconds, on the SUV's other headlight.

"This one cleaned up a little bit better," said Holcombe.

So, does it really do that?

"For an individual doing it at home, it's a help, they could see much better driving the car, but us, as a dealer, we would do our process," said Holcombe.

Don warns that even though Fast Brite can help, it is still only a temporary fix.

You can purchase the Fast Brite Lens Restore kit online, buy-one-get-one free for $10, plus processing and handling.
