Get Marty: Family Fights With Insurance After Skunk Forces Them Out Of Their Home

LATROBE (KDKA) -- A Latrobe family has been forced out of their home by a skunk.

"I'm ruined. I have a roughly 4,000 square foot home that is not worth crap. I'm almost better off not paying the mortgage and walking away," says homeowner Scott Gray.

Somehow a skunk got into the Gray's home a few weeks ago. It sprayed its foul smelling odor all over the home.

"We had to move out. We haven't been back," says Scott.

The family says Nationwide Insurance told them they were covered only to call back days later saying they are not.

"We have nearly $300,000 in damage. The smell will not go away," says Scott. "Something with skunk spray is a pollutant and not a bodily fluid. The denial letter had the chemical breakdown of skunk spray."

KDKA immediately reached out to Nationwide Insurance. The company does not comment on cases. However, the company did say they are taking a look at the Gray's case.

Meantime, we got an insurance adjuster and a lawyer involved. They tell KDKA that the Grays have a strong case.

The family tried to have the smell removed. Restoration experts tried to remove it, but it will not go away.

The family is living in an apartment in Latrobe until the situation is resolved.
