Mother Of Man Who Fell To Death From Parking Garage Issues Plea For Help

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The mother of the man who fell to his death Sunday from a downtown Pittsburgh garage talked about her son today and is making a plea for help.

"Somebody come forward, so we can have closure. We don't want to know your name, we want to know what happened to him," Carol Bartlebaugh said.

Carol spoke with KDKA-TV's Brenda Waters via phone from West Palm Beach, Florida, where she lives.

She desperately wants to know what happened to her son, 49-year-old Joseph Bartlebaugh.

He fell from a garage on Stanwix Street Sunday afternoon just after 5 p.m. Police have not determined how or why he fell.

"My plea is somebody had to be there with him. There was a girl he was hanging out with, her name is Jamie. I don't know her last name. Jamie if you are out there and you know what happened, call anyone at the TV station and tell us what happened to him," she said.

Carol said the last time family members spoke with Joseph was last Friday, when he said he was going to the Steelers game on Sunday.

"Somebody had to be with him, everything in his pockets is missing and his cell phone," she said.

Carol said he had been living in Arnold for about three months and he has a 15-year-old son.

She learned of her son's death when UPMC Mercy Hospital called her. Apparently, Joseph had been hospitalized days earlier and she was listed in his contact information.

Carol will be in Pittsburgh this week to make funeral arrangements.

Police say they have nothing new on the investigation.
