Boomer Between The Games: Week 11 Preview With Brian Jones

By DJ Sixsmith

In Week 10 of the NFL season, the Dallas Cowboys got a monster road victory in Pittsburgh and the Seattle Seahawks proved once again they are Super Bowl contenders. This season, NFL fans will be able to hear even more about their favorite teams in a brand new digital show called Boomer Between the Games. Hosted by NFL on CBS analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason, the former NFL quarterback gives his thoughts on the week that was in the National Football League and chats with an all-star roster of guests about the upcoming week of games.

This week on Boomer Between the Games, former NFL linebacker Brian Jones returned to the program. Jones is a College Football Analyst on CBS Sports Network and the co-host of Gio & Jones on CBS Sports Radio. Jones played collegiately at the University of Texas and played for the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Raiders and the New Orleans Saints. Brian had 53 tackles; two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble in his career.

This week's episode started off with a conversation about Dallas's gutsy win on the road in Pittsburgh. Boomer was extremely impressed with Dak Prescott's poise in front of a hostile Pittsburgh environment. Esiason believes that Prescott and fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott should share Rookie of the Year honors this season. Meanwhile, Jones loves the way Elliott finished runs against the Steelers and is amazed by how the moment has never been too big for the former Ohio State running back. Both these former NFL players wouldn't be surprised if Elliott gets votes for the MVP. Dallas has won eight straight games since losing in the final seconds to the New York Giants in Week 1.

Additionally, the two former NFL players discussed the game of the week between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. Boomer enjoyed the battle all game long between Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Seahawks safety Earl Thomas. While Thomas may have punctured Grokowski's lung, the All-Pro tight end respected the way Thomas hit him all night long. Esiason said that's the way hard nosed football is meant to be played. The co-host of Gio & Jones praised the Seahawks for their rugby tackling style and noted how Russell Wilson is a much different player after recovering from his ankle injury. Both Brian and Boomer are hoping this could be a preview of the Super Bowl in a few months.

The biggest storyline heading into Week 11 is the matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and the red host Dallas Cowboys. Boomer emphasized the importance of the Ravens defense in this matchup. Baltimore has the number one defense in football and has been sparked by the great play of Terrell Suggs and CJ Mosley. Esiason said the only way Baltimore wins is if the Ravens defensive line can keep the big Dallas offensive line off balance. Jones finished off the conversation by saying the key for Baltimore in this game is forcing Dak Prescott to beat them as opposed to allowing Zeke Elliott to run wild. The former NFL MVP and former NFL linebacker also previewed Carson Wentz's first trip to Seattle against the Seahawks.

Finally, Boomer and Bill grabbed a fan question from Twitter. The former NFL MVP and former NFL linebacker discussed whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles are a playoff team. Boomer feels as though that all hinges on the performance of Carson Wentz. While Esiason loves the Eagles top five defense, the co-host of Boomer and Carton doesn't think the offense is good enough to make this a playoff team. Jones feels the same way about the offense and gave defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz a ton of love for the job he has done this season. In a highly competitive NFC, both Boomer and Brian think there are better teams in the conference besides the Eagles.

Boomer Between the Games will be available every week here on CBS Local Sports. Throughout the entire season, Boomer will be joined by guests like former Pro Bowl wide receiver Cris Collinsworth and 2x Super Bowl champ Phil Simms. Former NFL player Mike Quick will stop by next week to look back at Week 11 and look ahead to the great games in Week 12. Join the conversation with Boomer each week by using #BoomerBTG and one of your tweets could be included in next week's show.
