Police: Man Stabbed Friend In Fight Over Deceased Girlfriend, Weed Money

STAR JUNCTION, Pa. (KDKA) -- Police have charged a man accused of stabbing his friend in a drunken fight that involved a former girlfriend and payment for marijuana.

It happened Wednesday evening, after Matthew Fafalios and 55-year-old Ronald McPartland had been drinking for several hours at McPartland's home on Newtown Road in Star Junction.

According to a criminal complaint, the trouble began when the two got into a fight about McPartland's girlfriend who had recently died. McPartland also told officers he was angry because Fafalios never paid him for marijuana he gave him several months ago.

Fafalios got up to leave the room, and McPartland grabbed a large knife.

As Fafalios tried to fight back and flee, McPartland allegedly struck him with the knife on his hands and twice on his face.

When the alleged victim escaped the house, he went across the street where he was treated by his mother and grandmother. His mother said the alleged victim was spending time with the accused because he felt bad for him.

"There was no stopping the bleeding, he'd lost so much blood," mom Deeann Fafalios said.

While being cared for, Fafalios became angry and ran back to McPartland's home, followed by his mother.

An angry McPartland rushed outside with a second knife. As Fafalios' mother threw herself on top of her son, McPartland pressed the weapon to the woman's back, saying "I'll kill you both."

State police arrived and took McPartland into custody, where denied stabbing  Fafalios but said he was acting "nuts" and "like an ***hole." He is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder.

Fafalios is expected to recover, but his injuries were quite severe.

"It took hours to stitch up his face, it took a lot of stitches,"  Deeann Fafalios said.
