Photo Snapped In Courtroom, Posted To Facebook Lands Young Man In Jail

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A young man is facing several months in jail after posting a photo he snapped in a local courtroom to social media.

Terrell Turner, 19, has been sentenced to six-months in jail after taking a picture of a police officer in a courtroom, and then posting it on his Facebook page.

Turner was in court last week facing a gun law violation charge when he snapped the police officer's picture.

The Allegheny County Sheriff's Department conferred with the District Attorney's Office and Common Pleas Judge Philip Ignelzi last Friday.

A warrant was then issued for Turner's arrest for violating bond conditions.

Turner surrendered on Tuesday morning; and in the afternoon, Judge Ignelzi found him guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to six months in jail.

Lt. Jack Kearney, of the Sheriff's Department, said, "People have to learn you can't do stuff like that on social media."

Kearney says it's illegal to use cameras or audio recording equipment in courtrooms.
