Police Make Arrest After Discovery Of Body In McKeesport Home

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) – Investigators say they have made an arrest in connection with a body that was discovered Tuesday afternoon in a McKeesport home.

The body was found inside a house in the 700 block of Jenny Lind Street around 12:30 p.m.

According to Allegheny County Police, homicide investigators were called to the home to search for a missing man.

When they arrived, they found the body of Jerry Kunes in a closet. Police say the remains were badly decomposed. It is unclear how long the body had been there.

According to the criminal complaint, Shawn Thomas, 24, of Clairton, has been arrested in connection with Kunes' death.

Thomas was friends with Kunes and had sold him drugs in the past. Thomas told police he was sleeping in a home on Walnut Street when Kunes woke him up and was standing over him in only his underwear.

Kunes was allegedly making suggestive gestures, which enraged Thomas.

At that time, Thomas began punching and choking Kunes and used a plastic bag to suffocate him.

Thomas said he put Kunes' body in a shopping cart, covered him with blankets and wheeled him to the home on Jenny Lind Street.

Thomas is facing homicide and abuse of a corpse charges.
