1 Killed, 3 Others Injured In East Hills Shooting

EAST HILLS (KDKA) -- The hunt is on for the suspect or suspects accused of killing one and injuring three others.

It happened in broad daylight in the East Hills along Park Hill Drive. Shots rang out in the Mapleridge Apartments just after 12:30 p.m.

Police say 22-year-old Niles Young was outside working on a car in the parking lot near the building. A 29-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were sitting inside a car parked nearby.

Police say one or more gunmen came out of the woods and started shooting.

"[Young] was shot three times in the back," Public Safety spokesperson Sonya Toler said. "The adult female was shot in the arm. The child was grazed in the foot. They actually ran into one of the apartment units here for safety."

Young was taken to UPMC Presbyterian where he died. The other victims are in stable condition.

An 8-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital.

"There was a fourth victim who was not shot, but was injured by flying glass inside one of the residences," Toler said.

Police believe up to 15 shots were fired. No motive was given, and there's no description of the gunmen.

Police are hoping someone will come forward with information.

"Right now, we have no information as far as who those shooters are," Toler said. "We don't know how many, we don't know anything about them. We are definitely going to need the help of the community."
