Police: Uber Driver Stopped Ride, Assaulted Female Passenger

ROSS TWP. (KDKA) -- Ross Police say an Uber driver is facing charges after a woman told police he assaulted her mid-ride.

Jehad Abdula Makhoul, 46, is charged with one count of indecent assault and one count of harassment.

A woman told police that Makhoul picked her up on Nov. 22 at 8:45 p.m. She was headed to the Barrel Junction Bar on Route 8.

She reported that the driver stopped mid-ride, and began unwanted sexual advances. The woman said she was able to push him away and called 911 when she got out of the vehicle.

Police advise people using ride sharing services to:

  • Request the ride through an actual account – not on the street with a driver.
  • Travel with friends.
  • Photograph the license plate before you get in.
  • Verify the car and driver is who is supposed to pick you up before you get in.
  • Text or tell a friend that you are using a ride service, and share your location.
  • The driver is not a trusted friend, do not treat them as such and be careful what information you share.
  • Trust your instincts and do not get in the car if you do not feel safe.
