City Of Champions: Steelers, Penguins Ranked Among Best Franchises In World

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh is known as the City of Champions for a reason and according to a new list, the Steelers and Penguins franchises are among the best in the world.
Time Inc's Fansided has ranked the top 250 Fandoms in the world.

The list ranks it all, from sports, to entertainment, celebrities, and even brands. It compiles the top 250 most popular, or biggest Fandoms in the world.

The Pittsburgh Steelers rank number 23 on the list, out of 250.

Fansided says this about the Steelers:

"The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the more loyal fan bases in the world. Pittsburgh has been a terrific fanbase for all of its professional teams, but the city identifies with the Steelers in a unique, beautiful way."

Only the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys rank higher in NFL teams according to the list.

The Pittsburgh Penguins also ranked high on the list. The Pens were the highest ranked NHL team on the list, and made spot number 70 in the rankings.

Fansided said this about the Penguins:

"The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the few NHL teams that enjoy consistent sellouts from its faithful in the regular season. The Penguins have enjoyed ample success in their 50 years, and much of that has to do with the unwavering support from their fans in good times and bad."

Pittsburgh features two teams that rank in the top-20 among professional sports franchises. Oakland and Boston are the only other two cities in the world with two or more top-20 professional sports franchises on the list.

The top five of the Fandom 250 list include the Chicago Cubs (1st), Star Wars (2nd), Beyonce (3rd), Game of Thrones (4th), and the Dallas Cowboys (5th).
