Pittsburgh Steelers Team Headlines: Le'Veon Bell's Fumbling Issue, Giants' Play Angers Steelers

By Danny Cox

Putting a stop to the New York Giants' six-game winning streak is just one of the many things that made the Pittsburgh Steelers happy this past weekend. They can also be thrilled about extending their two-game win streak and staying in the hunt for the AFC North. With the remaining 2016 games being crucial, they are hard at work preparing for their AFC match-up against the Buffalo Bills. While the team is busy getting ready for their week 14 game, they have also addressed some lingering issues from week 13.

Mike Tomlin Not Worried About Le'Veon Bell's Fumbling Problem

In the first 3.5 seasons of his NFL career, running back Le'Veon Bell put the ball on the ground just one time. In the last six games, Bell has fumbled four times. Luckily, three of them were recovered, so they didn't end up as turnovers. However, his grip on the football could be a growing concern for the Steelers.

This past weekend against the Giants, Bell's fumble was lost and ended up being converted into a touchdown, although head coach Mike Tomlin isn't overly worried.

"I'm not over-analyzing at this point," Tomlin said at his press conference Tuesday. "He's done a great job of taking care of the ball over the course of his career. Not only here, but even dating back to college. Aside from the numbers, his approach or his mentality, every time he takes the field, he does so with that in mind: with ball security being the quintessential element to him having a good day. So I'm not overly concerned about it."

With DeAngelo Williams missing a lot of time due to injury, Bell has become the primary back for the Steelers and they are putting a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He's also getting a ton of touches this season, so, they need him to protect the ball.

New York Giants Played Dirty And The Steelers Aren't Happy About It

Late in the Steelers' victory over the Giants on Sunday, offensive guard Ramon Foster grabbed linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and threw him off of a pile-up on the field. Many have wondered why Foster did that since the Steelers were up on the Giants and well on their way to victory, but he had a perfectly good reason for it.

Le'Veon Bell was the reason for the pile-up, but as the Giants tried to take him to the ground, they got a little rough. Replays of the down showed Shappard, linebacker Devon Kennard, and other Giants players reaching for Bell's helmet and facemask, grabbing it, and twisting it as they brought him to the ground.

"It got a little chippy and L. Bell was on the ground," Foster said. "One of their guys ran up and tried to bend him back. Like his legs are bent, his knee's on the ground like that – you don't do that. So I got him up off of him. There's no sense in doing the extra stuff."

That move by Foster prompted some Giants and Steelers to begin pushing and shoving, but that was quickly broken up. This back-and-forth brought about no flags, but the game was a bit tense for the rest of the half. Still, the Steelers went on to win the game and keep their win streak intact. The Steelers have proven they are a team that watches out for each other, and will do the same against Buffalo, as they prepare for another hard-hitting match-up.
