Construction Crew Member Burned While Working At Mt. Lebanon High School

MT. LEBANON (KDKA) -- A construction worker was injured while working at Mt. Lebanon High School on Sunday morning.

A crew was working at the high school when they impacted electrical lines, sparking an arc flash.

One worker was burned and transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Mt. Lebanon Fire Department Deputy Chief Kevin Maehling was unsure what degree the burns were, but said he understood they were "fairly significant injuries."

"Burn injuries are sometimes very traumatic and late in showing their full effect, so on scene, we can't establish [the severity]," Maehling said.

According to Maehling, the school district was evaluating the situation.

The high school is set to be closed Monday due to the incident.
