Pittsburgh Native Jackie Evancho To Sing National Anthem At Trump Inauguration

PITTSBURGH (AP/KDKA) - Jackie Evancho, a 16-year-old singer from the Pittsburgh suburbs, has been chosen to sing the national anthem at President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

Evancho, who became famous as a runner-up on "America's Got Talent" in 2010, announced the event Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show, saying, "I'm so excited; it's going to be awesome."

Trump's inauguration committee spokesman calls Evancho a "true role model and inspiration for people young and old in our country and around the globe."

Evancho met Trump at hit Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida shortly after her appearance on "America's Got Talent" and posted the picture on her Facebook page.

"We're delighted to have Jackie Evancho performing the National Anthem at the 58th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony. As the youngest solo artist to ever go platinum, she is a true role model and inspiration for people young and old in our country and around the globe. Jackie represents the best and the brightest of America."--Boris Epshteyn, Director of Communications, Presidential Inaugural Committee
