4 In Custody After Hours-Long Butler SWAT Incident

BUTLER (KDKA) – Four people are in custody after a SWAT situation in Butler County.

According to police, officers were called to a home on East Pearl Street around 9 p.m. Sunday for a burglary in progress.

Butler police along with state police and Allegheny County's SWAT team braved the cold temperatures to try to get several suspects out of an apartment along Franklin Street, near East Pearl Street.

It was quite a scene for neighbors, who saw numerous SWAT officers with their guns drawn.

"Quiet street, all the way down clear to the end. The side streets, people are nice. This is the first time something like this has ever happened," Raymond Leon said.

There are four apartments in the house. All of the residents were evacuated, while negotiators tried to get the suspects out.

Leon knows the landlord well and was asked to take a look at the damage inside

"It's a mess. All the windows are broken and then there's holes in the ceiling on that part," he said.

A woman lives in the apartment police zeroed in on, but she got out unharmed.

Police took four people into custody. One of them was reportedly hiding outside for five hours.

Those residents who had to be evacuated were allowed back into their homes after the SWAT situation was cleared. No one was injured.
