One Person Shot Outside 7-Eleven In New Castle

NEW CASTLE (KDKA) -- One person was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after a shooting in New Castle.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. outside a 7-Eleven in the 600-block of Highland Avenue.

Officers responded to the scene for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown and is reported to be in stable condition.

New Castle Police say officers learned during the investigation that the suspected shooter was in a residence in the 500-block of Florence Avenue.

At the home, 17-year-old Lanny Baker was taken into custody. Police say Baker admitted to shooting the male during an altercation.

Baker is being charged as an adult. He is facing charges of criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a minor.
