Man Found Dead After Firing Shots, Setting Fire To Home During Standoff

SOUTH PARK (KDKA) -- A man is dead after an hours-long standoff situation in South Park.

Police were originally called to the home along Patrick Place for a report of shots fired. However, things escalated and at one point, smoke could be seen pouring from the windows.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office identifies the victim as 37-year-old Daniel Wang. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:33 a.m. The cause and manner of his death are pending.

According to police, this started out as a domestic dispute when the wife of the suspect went to the South Park police station to report trouble at home.

"The victim came here to the station around four o'clock to explain that her and her husband had a domestic fight and he was at the house and that he made threats to her well-being and to any police officers that would come on the scene," South Park Township Police Chief Dennis McDonough said.

With that, police got a warrant for the suspect's arrest, got emergency crews in place and attempted to enter the house and get him to come out. They received no response for hours.

Then, he began talking to a negotiator while setting a fire inside the home.

"He set fire to his townhouse. The fire was so intense that we forced entry into the house," Chief McDonough said.

During all of this, police say the suspect fired several shots out of the back window, which did not hit anyone.

When the fire was out and the smoke was cleared, the suspect's body was found.

"The fire was set downstairs and he was found...he kept running up and down the stairs between the first and second floors. He wound up on the second floor," Chief McDonough said.

Wang and his wife have a 20-month-old child, which was not injured.
