Driver Injured After Crashing Into Plum Apartment Building

PLUM (KDKA) – One woman was injured after crashing her vehicle into an apartment building in Plum Wednesday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the incident happened in the 600 block of Deborah Jane Drive around 10 a.m.

The 82-year-old female driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Neighbors say she lives up the road and works as a waitress.

"Very sweet lady, works hard, loved by many," says Sonny Bruce, a neighbor.

She was conscious and alert at the scene.

The woman hit a car before crashing into the building. It's unclear what caused her to crash.

"I heard a big boom, looked out the window and saw the car in the building," Bruce said. "First off, is I thought it was somebody throwing garbage in the dumpster, because that's what it sounded like…like an empty dumpster, somebody throwing stuff in. And I looked up the street, down the street and saw the car in the building."

Another neighbor thought the noise was attributed to Wednesday morning's storms.

"At first, I thought it was thunder," says Gary Marcus. "[But] it was too loud for thunder, and the whole building shook."

People inside the apartment were not injured and were able to get out of the building safely. However, one of their two cats is missing.

"The whole house shook," says an unidentified neighbor. "It sounded like a china closet or something just fell."

It's still unclear where the family who lives in the damaged apartment will stay until repairs can be made.
