Boy Riding Bicycle Killed After Crash With Dump Truck

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A child was killed in Spring Garden after he crashed into a dump truck while riding his bicycle Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 1:45 p.m. in the 1400-block of Spring Garden Avenue.

By the time police and paramedics got on the scene, there was nothing they could do.

An 8-year-old boy riding his bike had slammed into a dump truck. The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Jayden Montegomery.

Folks in the neighborhood are filled with anguish.

“A lot of kids ride up and down here, and cars fly,” neighbor Amy Robinson said. “But I can’t believe this happened.”

Police are still trying to piece together what happened. The driver of the truck remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

“We’re on the scene, trying to determine exactly how the accident occurred,” Pittsburgh Police spokeswoman Sonya Toler said.

The truck driver has been taken into custody, but he has not been charged. He will undergo blood and alcohol tests, as is standard procedure in a fatal crash.
