SALTSBURG (KDKA) -- The state fire marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed the Kiski Valley Inn in Saltsburg early Sunday.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. at the Loyalhanna Township restaurant.

The Saltsburg Township assistant fire chief, Joe Ott, lives near the business. He saw flames shooting from the roof shortly after he received the alarm.

"I looked across the hall there and I could see the flames about 100 feet in the air," Ott said. "[The flames] were through the roof."

The landmark building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The building has undergone several renovations, which Ott says made it difficult to fight the fire.

"Every time it gets renovated, it just keeps getting layer after layer, so it made it a little bit difficult for us," Ott said, "and the bulk of the fire was in the bottom, so when everything collapsed, it just trapped all the fire. We couldn't get to it."

About 75 firefighters from twelve departments helped put the fire out.

No one was hurt.
