Suspect In Springdale Twp. Home Invasion Shot, Killed

SPRINGDALE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A man was shot and killed after breaking into a home in Springdale Township on Sunday.

It happened just after 10 a.m. at a home in the 1200 block of Butler Road.

Allegheny County Police say officers were sent to the scene for a report of a home invasion with shots fired.

When officers arrived on the scene, the residents of the home told police the suspect ran across Butler Road. Officers found him lying in a field across the street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office has identified the victim as 39-year-old Joseph Secora, of Springdale.

During their investigation, police discovered a resident of the home shot Secora after he broke through a glass door and entered the home.

Police say the motive for the home invasion is unknown, but the residents did know Secora and police say they believe he had mental health issues.

No residents were injured during the home invasion and shooting.

There have been no arrests at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
