WILKINSBURG (KDKA) -- Firefighters rushed to the scene of a house fire in Wilkinsburg on Friday night over reports a baby may have been trapped inside.

However, authorities say, fortunately, that turned out not to be the case. And no injuries were reported.

The fire was first reported just before 9 p.m. in the 1100-block of Pearl Street.

Crews say the initial reports of a baby inside the home turned out not to be true. Instead, the father had taken to child out earlier, and they were not in the home when the fire broke out.

Fire crews say it was a tense scene.

"You're hoping for the best. You're hoping they can get the kid out if it's in there, but the main thing is to control the fire and try to get the people out as soon as you can," said Capt. David Brogese, of the Pittsburgh Fire Department.

While no one was hurt, there was smoke damage throughout the home.

Officials say the fire was confined mostly to the kitchen area.
