  4. on your sunday night sports show your 3 guests were strongly suggesting the removal of Coach Bylsma I talked to my son a captain, 4-year varsity hockey player, die-hard pens fan and badger bob winner. he replied with this and maybe your guests need to read this: I thought alot about what you said about how Dan Bylsma won with Therrien's Team. However you along with many other sports analyst some dubbed "experts" are wrong. Therrien's team lost the stanley cup with his pick ups of Marian Hossa, Hal Gill, and Pascal Dupuis....Dan Bylsma came into a team that was not winning although it was Therrien who had built the team to that point there were 2 players that were brought upon Bylsma's request. 2 players that played pivotal roles in the playoffs of 2009. Bill Guerin who scored the OT game winner in the Flyer series. Who also played along Sidney Crosby and assisted on almost every goal he scored in the Capitals series. Also someone many forget that if it was not for Bylsma Shero would of never found him. Chris Kunitz Dan Bylsma's former Stanley Cup teammate from the Ducks. Kunitz brought physicallity to the Pens putting Kimo Timmonen head over heels on an explosive hit. Granted right now Guerin is gone and Kunitz is causing more harm than help with his penalties but Dan's systems have worked here since day 1 and the 2 years past the stanley cup 1 year he had no Malkin or Crosby and this year is the first struggle. Mario may not want to lose to the Flyers but they are a good team. It would be a HUGE, HUGE mistake to lose Dan Bylsma. People need to keep their mouths shut and have their facts straight before they start making comments and being negative. THE PENGUINS ARE STILL IN THE PLAYOFFS. it is a hard road to stay alive but its not impossible its been done before....Wednesday night will show if the Pens have given up or if they are going to get back to their game (fundamental, hard hitting hockey, that goes shift by shift wave by wave and is the hockey that all of the NHL has feared) Paul martin in or Simon Despres everyone needs to nut up or shut up.

  7. Bob, when will you remind eveyone that while B.A. may not have called a perfect game, Ben still has a lot of control over the offense. He called a run audible into a run defense. Ben was in fact hurt, but that does not negate his poor play calling that B.A. allows him the freedom to do. Ben makes poor calls and Bruce takes the heat.

  8. Vin, I listened to your show this afternoon and tried to get through with a phone call but was unscusseful. I wanted to send you an email because I coached at GCC (early 00's) and have first-hand experience of the so-called recruiting that goes on. A caller touched on it earlier in the show in that at GCC "recruiting" was a matter of being in the office and answering calls and/or returning messages. I was in the head coaches office on many occasions when a call was received by a parent inquiring about the football program and their son who intended on transferring. The conversation was always approached by our head coach explaining that if their son was enrolled in the school he could absolutely come out for the football team. In the case during the years I was there we didn't even have cuts! There was never a guarantee of playing time but the opportunity to come out for the team was always available. The claim that the GCC coaches were out combing the midget leagues is absolutely false. Specifically during the season Saturdays were spent with JV games and Sundays were spent breaking down film on the next opponent. In addition there was never a situation where we combed the HS stats, found a player doing well and dialed up the number of the player and invited him to come to GCC. It just didn't happen, I'm not sure what people think these coaches do with their free time but the little bit of free time was not spent looking for the next LaVar Arrington. Time spent "recruiting" is both illegal but it would take away time from us making the kids that we had better! As far as tuition goes - I believe that if a student is Catholic the diocese or possibly the parish often times helped out with tuition. In addition there are work-study options that helped the family pay. There was never an instance where a coach or adminstrator paid for a particular student or sought out a beneficiary to pay for a student's tuition. It just never happened. Interestingly, while I coached there I was often asked about our "recruiting" tactics and it was always made known to me that "everyone knows you recruited so and so. In each instance I asked where they got their information - in specifics and was always met with "well I know it happens because my cousins friend's best friend goes there and he doesn't pay". In every case I asked if I could get the specific name of the person claiming to have the information and if I could contact them to inquire because if that was the case I wanted to get it addressed and if any impropriety was taking place I wanted to put an end to it. You can imagine how many people were able to come up with 1st person proof that this was going on. It just never happened. I hope this sheds some light on this and if you have any questions I would be happy to try to answer them for you. Please note - I have no dog in the fight. I don't coach there and I don't have any kids going there. I simply coached there and I know how the school operates and I know that such claims are just not true. Thank you sir. I enjoy your show.
