44 is not the correct answer.
They ones available to the general public are:
Allegheny General Hospital (NorthSide)
Allegheny General – Forbes Regional Campus
West Penn Hospital
Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC
UPMC St. Margaret
Jefferson Regional Medical Center
Ohio Valley General Hospital
St. Clair Memorial Hospital.
Specialized hospitals are (meaning they only deal with certain sectors of society but are still considered “hospitals”:
Western Psychiatric Inst. of UPMC
Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC
VA Pittsburgh (2 locations)
These facilities call themselves hospitals but in the general sense of the word, they are not:
Kindred Hospital (2 locations: North Shore & Oakland) which is an acute care and LTAC facility
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare system (3 locations: University Drive, Highland Drive and HJ Heinz Progressive Center)
Select Specialty Hospital (acute care located in UPMC Montefiore)
Kane Regional Hospitals (4 locations)
So technically there are only about 14 legit hospitals in Allegheny County, but there are other facilities that are highly specialized and in some sense they can be considered hospitals.
