This year, the outdoor rink is located at the intersection of 26th and Sidney Streets on the South Side.

in 2010, the outdoor rink was constructed on the North Shore as part of the Pittsburgh Penguins-Washington Capitals Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

It was so popular, the Pens decided to make it an annual event.

A grand opening event was held Saturday morning (Nov 19).

The ceremony featured Former Penguin and Hall of Famer Bryan Trottier, Pens' mascot Iceburg & the Penguins' Ice Crew!

Public skating will be available at the rink every day.

Groups of 20 or more also may reserve the ice for skating and/or hockey.

“The public rink was so successful; we had so much demand for it that we decided to do it again this year. Kind of make it the legacy of the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh.” -- said Penguins CEO David Morehouse

In addition to the Penguins, the outdoor rink is a joint effort of presenting sponsor Highmark, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), rink operator Magic Ice USA and the Soffer Organization.
