Oct. 9, 2012 -- Jerry Sandusky was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison Tuesday morning after being found guilty on 45 of 48 charges in a child sexual assault case earlier this year. Toddler Zoo Mauling Death

Nov. 4, 2012 -- Two-year-old Maddox Derkosh was mauled to death, after falling into the African painted dogs exhibit at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. Police had to shoot one of the endangered dogs in the attack and the painted dogs exhibit has been indefinitely closed since the incident. Newtown, Conn. School Shooting

Dec. 14, 2012 -- The small town of Newtown, Conn. was taken by surprise when 20-year-old Adam Lanza went on a shooting spree at Sandy Hook Elementary, killing 20 children and six adults, before killing himself. Lanza also killed his mother prior to going to the elementary school. The shooting was the second worst in U.S. history, after the Virginia Tech massacre that left 30 dead. Sandy Hook Shooting
