PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — It was a performance to be remembered, though not necessarily a performance to be replicated.
Pitt point guard Travon Woodall claimed after the team’s 64-44 victory over USF that Head Coach Jamie Dixon allowed his guys to “go on out there and play” instead of running their sets, and that’s what spurred them to a 16-0 run that put them ahead for good in the second half.
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — One of the most common knocks against Jamie Dixon is he doesn’t think outside his own metaphorical box, insisting all the basketball world’s problems can be solved by simply boxing out. Imagine the surprise of his critics when, together, he and the Panthers did both.
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — We live in a world where Dante Taylor is met with thunderous applause for something he did on the offensive end. So is it finally safe to say this season will be different for the Panthers?
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Bleat all you want about the infirmity of their non-conference schedule, but the Panthers continue to gather national attention, and it’s because they taught one of the locals a lesson on Saturday.
An influx of promising, albeit unproven, talent, could help provide that wake-up call. It has already re-energized the fan base. But how far can these Panthers prowl?
Chris Gates | 93-7 The FAN — Pitt snapped a five-game losing streak Wednesday night with an 89-69 stomping on St. John’s.
(93-7 The FAN) — Pitt used its final home game of the season to snap a five-game losing streak and usher out seniors Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson with a win, as the Panthers defeated St. John’s Wednesday night, 89-69.
(93-7 The FAN) — Pitt basketball coach Jamie Dixon said Monday that junior power forward Dante Taylor injured his back in practice and was unable to return.
(93-7 The FAN) — No. 1 Syracuse didn’t grant Pitt access to its first Big East win of the season, beating the Panthers Monday night at the Carrier Dome, 71-63.
Chris Gates | 93-7 The FAN — Pitt coach Jamie Dixon, along with Taylor and Moore, spoke to the media after the game. Here’s what they all had to say.
(93-7 The FAN) — No. 15 Pitt jumped out to a 27-4 lead in the game’s opening 13 minutes, leaving little to worry that the Panthers could lose their first game ever to a Northeast Conference opponent (70-0 all time) as they cruised to a 71-47 win.
Among the things the University of Pittsburgh Panthers (6-1) did well their 80-69 win over the Duquesne Dukes (4-3) in last night’s City Game, two of them in a back-to-back sequence were agreed by all parties involved to be the dagger that would be the one that killed. The piercing of the skin was the already known and glaring disadvantage for Duquesne, a rebound, and the shove into the gut was an uncontested three.
Chris Gates | 93-7 The FAN — Taylor showed everyone that he has aspirations of never giving that starting job back.
(93-7 The FAN) — Ashton Gibbs scored 18 points and No. 17 Pittsburgh downed crosstown rival Duquesne 80-69 on Wednesday night in the annual City Game.
