A traveling medical technician was sentenced Monday to 39 years in prison for stealing painkillers and infecting dozens of patients in four states with hepatitis C through tainted syringes.
A traveling hospital technician accused of causing a multistate outbreak of hepatitis C last year has pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in New Hampshire.
David Kwiatkowski has been in jail since August of last year.
Linda Ficken contracted Hepatitis C in a Kansas hospital, but last month she sued UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh for gross negligence. Now two other people from Kansas have also filed suit.
Nearly 2,000 patients are being advised to get tested for Hepatitis C. The warning comes after a man who worked in a hospital in our area was accused of tampering with needles and infecting dozens of people at other hospitals with the disease.
