We react to the biggest games and some of the more interesting results of Week 3 of the WPIAL football season.
We’re going to keep our preseason coverage going with a series of rapid-fire previews, focusing on the Parkway Conference in Class AAA, perhaps the toughest of them all. For six consecutive seasons at least one team from this section has reached Heinz Field, and quite frankly, we foresee 2012 becoming the seventh.
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Rushel Shell wore No. 1 for a reason at Hopewell. The all-time leading rusher in PIAA history is used to dominating the gridiron, but he’s not used to chasing someone else who wears that number, at least not on his own team.
We recently profiled a number of local Olympians, but since the opening ceremonies in London, another youngster with WPIAL ties has flown–or, to be more specific, swam–under our radar.
As Hopewell guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough demonstrated at the Palumbo Center back in March, basketball is a sport in which one player can carry a team otherwise not particularly deep. It’ll be interesting to see if she can one day do out of the ACC what she’s done in three years out of the WPIAL.

A man accused of raping three women in the North Hills and Beaver County is in court. Last month, authorities arrested Arthur Henderson and charged him with 20 counts, including rape.
The man accused of raping two women in Ross Township is now facing charges for a sexual assault in Hopewell, Beaver County. Arthur Henderson was arrested Thursday in the Hill District.
The road team finished strong in a battle of two of the top girls’ teams in the WPIAL, while several boys’ and girls’ squads east of Pittsburgh have significant games Friday night.
