The man charged with holding a business owner hostage inside Three Gateway Center in Downtown Pittsburgh is facing new charges after the alleged assault of another inmate at the Allegheny County Jail.
Three Pittsburgh police negotiators are credited with bringing the hostage situation at Gateway Three to an end. They stayed on the line with 22-year-old Klein Thaxton for more than five hours and eventually convinced him to surrender.
Holding a man at knifepoint for five hours is not the Klein Thaxton who Je’Nauba Lipford-Watts went to high school with and dated for several years. “Klein has always been sweet, funny, outgoing, just a regular person,” she told KDKA-TV.
New details are coming out about the hostage situation that unfolded in Gateway Three in Downtown Pittsburgh Friday. Pittsburgh Police Chief Nate Harper says the suspect, 22-year-old Klein Thaxton, began his journey at 3 a.m. He is a resident of a three-quarter house in the Beechview area.
