Tunnels are the Achilles’ heel of Pittsburgh traffic, so when the outbound Liberty Tunnel closes at 10 p.m. for 16 days, there’s going to be a lot more traffic in the downtown area.
It’s a big weekend of events in our area, but some tunnel closures may make it difficult to get to them.
If you are heading to any of the major events this weekend in our town, it’s probably less than encouraging to learn that PennDOT is closing two tunnels.
Two major tunnels around the area will be experiencing lane closures this weekend.
Starting Tuesday, the Liberty Tunnel will be closed in both directions between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday.
A series of events led to damage to four vehicles and two people being sent to the hospital in ambulances.
There’s a lot going on in the city of Pittsburgh this weekend from the Three Rivers Arts Festival downtown to the Pirates-Phillies games over at PNC Park on the North Shore, add to that the continuing road construction season and there could be some major delays.
