Community Mourns Fallen Lower Burrell Officer

Friends and family of Officer Derek Kotecki are mourning today following the shooting outside the Dairy Queen in Lower Burrell that claimed his life. The flag outside the Lower Burrell Police Station has been lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Kotecki.

In honor of Lower Burrell Police Patrolman Derek Kotecki, Governor Corbett has ordered all state flags to fly at half-staff.

Lower Burrell Police Chief: “Derek Was A Great Police Officer”

The flags outside of the Lower Burrell Police Station in Westmoreland County are flying at half-staff today as people across the area mourn the loss of a veteran officer. Officer Derek Kotecki, 40, was an 18-year veteran of the police force and Lower Burrell’s K-9 officer.

Friend Remembers Fallen Lower Burrell Officer

Details are emerging about the Lower Burrell Police officer killed in the line of duty. KDKA-TV has learned Derek Kotecki was a K-9 officer and an 18-year veteran on the Lower Burrell police force. He was married and had two sons.
