Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Michael Huss had his regularly scheduled briefings with his top security chiefs today, but the Boston bombings were uppermost in their minds as Pittsburgh’s own marathon looms next month.
Downtown Pittsburgh quickly made the transition from corporate Pittsburgh to race course shortly after 6 p.m. Friday as the city launched its first GNC Live Well Liberty Mile Race. Race organizers seemed to have a plan and the plan seemed to work, but downtown commuters and some businesses were caught off guard by the new event.
If you plan on driving into the city over the next few days, keep two things in mind, patience and planning.
A record field of more than 25,000 runners will take part in the 2012 Pittsburgh Marathon.
It’s still months away, but already this year’s Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is setting records. On race day, a record 20,000 runners will participate in the marathon, half marathon and relay.
