The Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ new stadium was full of beautiful green turf just one week ago, getting ready for soccer action. Now though, the stadium is actually being prepped for the opening of the Penguins Pond, a professional hockey-sized ice rink.
Soccer has tried before in Pittsburgh, but the Riverhounds hope to change that, and the team is starting with a new soccer stadium in Station Square. Move over Steelers, Pirates and Penguins, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds are moving to the South Side.
(93-7 The FAN) — The Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer team announced plans Tuesday to build a stadium at Station Square.
Over the last decade or so, the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins have all moved into new buildings; now another Pittsburgh sports team is getting a new home.
Odds are good that in the not too distant future, it will become home to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds soccer team, a permanent new stadium on the banks of the Monongahela River in Station Square.
Everyone knows that Pittsburgh is home to the six-time Super Bowl champions and three-time Stanley Cup champion Penguins; but there’s more to this city of champions than the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates!
