Community members lined the streets to grieve the loss of Officer Derek Kotecki Monday morning.
It was a sad and moving moment in Lower Burrell Sunday night as the widow and children of a fallen police officer thanked people gathered for a candlelight vigil held in his memory. Officer Derek Kotecki will be laid to rest Monday morning following a funeral mass, but Sunday there was a less formal gathering to honor the slain officer.
The funeral for Lower Burrell Police Officer Derek Kotecki will be held Monday morning and there will be road closures in the area.
It is a solemn weekend in Westmoreland County as family, friends, community members and police officers from across the area are remembering an officer killed in the line of duty.
The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, at Mt. Saint Peter’s Catholic Church at 100 Freeport Road in New Kensington, followed by a burial service at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Lower Burrell.
