A busload of more than 40 prison employees and their families are in Harrisburg today for a hearing regarding the closing of SCI Greensburg.
For hundreds of local families, the New Year is beginning with the fear of what’s to come. Four-hundred employees of the State Prison in Greensburg have been told the prison is closing. And some aren’t buying the state’s promise that they’ll be taken care of.
State officials broke the news earlier this week about wanting to close two local prisons, the Greensburg State Prison in Westmoreland County and Cresson State Prison in Cambria County. The closures would mean that most inmates would be relocated miles away to other facilities.
