Film crews set up on Brownsville Road in Carrick one year ago in front of a gym that doesn’t exist, except in a film called “Southpaw.”
The new film, “Southpaw,” was shot in Pittsburgh, and the boxing ring used in the movie was later donated to the Centre Avenue YMCA.
Pittsburgh has long been known for its work in major motion pictures, and television shows. Take its famous turn in the cult classic Night of the Living Dead, shot in 1968, in and around Monroeville Mall. Most recently, however, Hollywood has been taking notice of Pittsburgh for its affordability, breathtaking architecture, and affable residents. Since 1919, nearly 150 movies have been filmed in the Steel City, with 35 occurring in the last five years.
