Idle Thoughts- Pens Hopes Of Post Season Marathon Could End In 5K Run

The bottom line is the Flyers own the Penguins right now. I said before this started that the Pens can’t win a series that goes seven games against the Flyers. And the odds of Pittsburgh winning four of the next five are very slim.

Idle Thoughts- Will 2012 Be Year Pirates Break The Streak?

Excuse me for not waxing poetice for a Pirates return to glory, as I think there is a much better chance of me winning Mr. Universe this year.

Idle Thoughts- A Gaggle Of Spring Sports Bits To Chew On

After three games, Sidney Crosby looks good. I’m rooting for it to continue, as I have been accused of ‘hating’ on Sid & his return to the NHL. Who wants to be right about the possible end to anybody’s career, let alone a man who many regard as the games best.

The Phillips File – Crosby’s Return To Ice; Proceed With Caution

If Sidney Crosby never suffers from post-concussion symptoms again, I will march down Grant Street naked, painted bright neon pink, being chased by a hungry pack of Doberman’s while playing Christmas Carols on a bag pipe as I stroke out and expire.

Idle Thoughts- Signing Wallace Steelers Top Priority By Draft

Let’s be real clear here, Mike Wallace will be catching passes in Pittsburgh next fall. There is no way the Steelers let him go to New England or any other team in the NFL.

Food & Games: The 184th (And Final???) Backyard Basketbrawl

It was a dark and gloomy Thursday in Pittsburgh. Quite appropriate for the setting of what many see as the final meeting between old rivals Pitt and West Virginia in basketball’s version of the Backyard Brawl.

The Phillips File- WVU Has Last Laugh On Big East, Pitt

Can you hear that laughter? It’s coming from Morgantown. That’s the sound of a giddy, Mountaineer nation having a good chuckle at the expense of its rival and soon to be former conference it was affiliated with for so long.

Idle Thoughts- Paterno’s Passing Mirrors Bear Bryant’s Last Days

I guess Joe Paterno knew best as to how his life would end if he stopped coaching.

The Phillips File: Pitt Must Fix Turnovers, Poor Shooting Vs. DePaul

Three game losing streaks are not very common when it comes to discussing Pitt basketball the past decade. Since Jamie Dixon took over the program nine years ago, it has only happened three times.

Idle Thoughts- A Grab Bag Of New Year’s Sports Notes

The magic of Tim Tebow looks to have run out and given the Steelers past success in the Mile-High city during playoff time, things are looking good for a Divisional playoff rematch with either New England or Baltimore.

Idle Thoughts: A Christmas Sports Wish List

Food & Games – The City Game, Pitt vs. Duquesne

The Consol Energy Center was the backdrop for the 80th edition of Pittsburgh’s City game featuring Pitt and Duquesne. For me, it was the 1st one that I have witnessed live and in person.

The Phillips File- Taglianetti’s Effort In WVU Loss Overlooked

For most of the night it looked like the Panthers were going to win what many see as the final Brawl for quite some time. But like so many games this year, the Panthers found a way to botch it.
