Pirates’ broadcaster and former pitcher Bob Walk joined the guys on The Fan Morning Show today for the final 2012 edition of his weekly spot, “Walk on Wednesday,” with the Pirates standing at 79-82 going into today’s finale.
At 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday afternoon, Major League Baseball’s non-waiver Trade Deadline passed with 19 teams within five games of postseason contention. For the first time ever, a record 10 clubs will earn an invite to MLB’s postseason dance. As a result, the rumor mill was churning at full speed up to the last possible second. When all the dust had settled, several franchises and millions of fans had new players for which to root.
The NFL’s timeline to kick off free agency and training camps has been adjusted, according to ESPN.com.
Frank Coonelly had to be relieved. For the first time since he came to town, the Pirates president could talk about his club sitting over .500 this late in a season. With the Pirates 39-38 near the end of June, the morale boost in the stands and offices at PNC Park is noticeable.
