TALE OF THE TAPE

Week 3: New York Jets At Miami Dolphins

Jets
Dolphins
Carolina Panthers v New York Jets
Miami Dolphins v Kansas City Chiefs
Quarterback
Winner Mark Sanchez was being celebrated after the Jets’ Week One victory over the Bills and he has been taken to task after the Jets’ Week Two loss against the Steelers. When he has reasonable protection, Sanchez can give the Jets a decent passing game but he is not going to become a dominant quarterback any time soon.
It looks like it will be a difficult year for rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill. He avoided game-altering mistakes against the Raiders, but he doesn’t have the weapons or the talent to do that very often this season.
Offense
Winner The Jets have some solid weapons to help out Sanchez. The best of those is Shonn Greene and he should be able to run with much greater ease against the Dolphins than he did the Steelers. Wideout Jeremy Kerley averaged 33.5 yards per catch.
Winner The Dolphins offer little in terms of receiving talent, but Reggie Bush has the wow factor running with the football this year that he has never had in his pro career. His speed and ability to run down the sidelines should give the Dolphins one dependable offensive option.
Defense
Winner The Jets are a solid defensive football team but they were under the gun because All-Pro cornerback Darelle Revis couldn’t play because of a concussion. He shouldn’t be rushed back into action because the Dolphins have an awful set of receivers.
The Dolphins found a way to shut down the Raiders, but the Jets are a far more competitive team. The Miami defense will have to do better against the Jets. Middle linebacker Karlos Dansby is a hard hitter who can set the tone.
Special Teams
Winner The Jets are not going to give this category away as special teams coach Mike Westhoff leads his last unit before retiring. Joe McKnight struggled early under Westhoff but now understands what it takes. Nick Folk is not a Pro Bowler but knows how to come through in the clutch.
Brandon Fields is a solid punter who averaged 53.2 yards on six punts against the Raiders and dropped four inside the 20-yard line. The Dolphins have solid punt- and kickoff-coverage teams.

The Winner Is

Carolina Panthers v New York Jets
Winner Jets
4 out of 4

The Jets could not get their offense on-track against the physical Steelers, but they should find it much easier to succeed against the Dolphins. Reggie Bush looks better running with the football now than he as at any point in his career, but the Jets look for physical challenges and will try to punish him.
