2014's Best New Restaurants In Pittsburgh

From burgers to lamb kabobs, there are a variety of new dishes to enjoy in Pittsburgh this year. 2014 was a big year for restaurant openings in the area. Here are just a few of the restaurants that opened in Pittsburgh this year with several more hot spots on the horizon for 2015. Make it your New Year's resolution to try them all.

Sienna Mercato

Located downtown on Penn Avenue, Sienna Mercato opened in September. This restaurant is a three-level Italian wonderland. The bottom floor is a swingin' meatball joint, the middle floor boasts house-made charcuterie and a fabulous wine list and above that is a rooftop beer garden. It is a great place to enjoy a casual plate of pasta or wood-fired pizza with friends.

Butcher And The Rye

Located on Sixth Street downtown, Butcher and the Rye opened last summer. It is another restaurant from Toga Sedvik and Rick DeShantz, the geniuses that brought us Meat and Potatoes. This new restaurant features two bars with distinctly different feels. The main floor is a casual whiskey bar, while the upper floor is an upscale supper club serving creative, fresh small plates.

Alihan's Mediterranean Cuisine

Also located on Sixth Street downtown, Alihan's Mediterranean Cuisine opened in June. It is a BYOB restaurant giving a new spin to Greek and Italian dishes. The menu features fresh Caprese and Greek salads, lamb and chicken kebabs and, of course, baklava for dessert. Round up your friends and a bottle or two of your favorite wine to enjoy a great meal.

Set to open late in the year, this new location for local favorite Burgatory is sure to be a fast favorite among the residents of Murraysville. If you live in the east hills and have not been to a Burgatory, this new location could be just what you're waiting for. Burgatory has an endless array of beef, chicken, veggie and crab burger combinations to choose from (you create your own perfect burger), fantastic fries and adult milkshakes.

Located near CONSOL Energy Center, this new sports bar opened in September. It is a great hangout spot not only for hockey fans, but sports fans in general. You can always catch a game while enjoying your meal at Blue Line Grille. The menu features bar favorites with a unique spin, such as wings with Peruvian Chimichurri sauce. There are also vegetarian and gluten-free options to enjoy.
