The Pittsburgh Children's Museum is the idea venue for entertaining children in the 5 to 8 age bracket. Explore the "home" of Pittsburgh native Fred Roger's of "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood." There are also a range of interactive activities, including paper making and silkscreening, a garage and workshop where kids can invent, build and take apart their work and a rope net where they can climb into a planetarium dome and launch parachutes.

At $5, the National Aviary is a fun and inexpensive way to spend the day with the kids. The birds are very people friendly and have been known to perch on benches in close proximity to visitors, so prepare for a near-interactive experience. Families can treat themselves to a great holiday experience at Renick's farm where you will find the tree of your dreams while taking in a stunning view from a hill-top vantage point. You might even catch a glimpse of a friendly horse on your trek. Singing Christmas carols walking up the hill to search out trees makes the time go by quickly for small children. Place your choice on a tarp and drag it back down the hill. Staff are friendly and willing to help find the type of tree you want, knowing well where their trees are located. You can also choose from pre-cut trees and wreaths on the lot. Stop in at a nearby local restaurant for a family meal after the tree is secured in the car.
