Best Family-Friendly Light Up Night Events

Children of all ages will be astounded by what they see in downtown Pittsburgh this holiday season. Light Up Night will actually spread over two days starting November 19th. There are so many things to do, but here are five suggestions of things to share with your kids when you come celebrate the season in downtown Pittsburgh.

Musical Performances

You will have two days to hear more than a dozen musical groups and acts at Light Up Night. Two stages will be set up. One is downtown in Market Square. The other is on the Celemnte Bridge. Here's a list of the scheduled events on both stages for Friday, November 19th.

Highmark Light Up Night March

For the second year, the Light Up Night March will wind its way through Downtown on Friday November 19th. Five regional high school bands totaling 500 musicians will play all your holiday favorites. Bands from Mt. Lebanon, Gateway, New Castle, Pittsburgh Allderdice and Chartiers-Houston High Schools will entertain you. The march starts near the Pittsburgh Creche around 6:15 at Grant Street. The end of the march will be Market Square for the Market Square Season of Lights display that starts around 6:30. The Colcom Foundation will light up the newly-renovated Market Square like it's never been seen before. More than three miles of LED lights will turn the downtown area into a twinkling holiday fantasy land. At least 150,000 lights will be used in Market Square.

PNC Fireworks Finale from the Warhol Bridge

Zambelli Fireworks will once again take care of the pyrotechnics display for Light Up Night. They will be launched from the Warhol Bridge at 9:38 Friday, November 19th. The theatrical presentation will be synchronized to the sounds of the season and broadcast live on 3WS Radio 94.5 FM. More than 10,000 shells and devices will be used in this wonderful display.

Snoopy's 60th Birthday Bash

The wonderful beagle from the Peanuts cartoon strip is 60 years old and kids will have a chance to celebrate our favorite pooch's big day. Snoopy's Birthday Bash will be head at the PPG Ice Rink from Noon - 2 PM. Stop by Market Square a couple hours early for some kid-friendly entertainment on the stage.

Candlelight Carriage Parade & Celebrate Santa! Stage Show

It will be a first for Pittsburgh. More than 20 horse-drawn carriages will wind their way through downtown on Saturday, November 20th. Starting at 5:00 PM at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, horses of all shapes and sizes will pull the elegant candlelit carriages through town. The famous Wells Fargo Stagecoach and Cinderella's Pumpkin coach are supposed to be part of the parade. Costumed characters and local celebrities will be on the carriages to greet the kids. The parade finishes in Market Square for the production of the Grand Pittsburgh Celebrate Santa! Stage Show as Santa, Mrs. Claus and all their helpers get ready for Christmas.
