Best Free Labor Day Events In Pittsburgh

For many, Labor Day marks the official end of summer, but just because the kids are heading back to school and the days will be getting shorter doesn't mean that you have to let the warm weather activities end. Pittsburgh has a bunch of great free events happening around Labor Day weekend to help you squeeze a little more fun out of summer. Whether your idea of a good time involves food, spending time outdoors or listening to the city's awesome local musicians, there is plenty to keep your Labor Day weekend agenda filled. Check out these five free events happening over the holiday weekend in Pittsburgh.

For free family friendly fun and food, Heinz Field's Kickoff And Rib Festival is hard to beat. This annual event brings the best of summer activities to Pittsburgh's Heinz Field for five days of entertainment, rides, games and, of course, mouthwatering ribs. Pittsburghers of all ages will have a blast at the free concerts, 2015 Gatorade/Steelers 5K race and more. The Kickoff And Rib Festival is a favorite way to celebrate the start of Steelers football season in the 'Burgh!

Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to shake and sing along to Dancing Queen, the city's 70s and 80s disco, funk and dance music cover band. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 at the South Park Amphitheater. Dancing Queen performs as a part of the Allegheny County 2015 Summer Concert Series. This concert is the final concert of the summer and one you won't want to miss.

There's even more for music lovers at Uptown Rooftop Lounge's free live music night, scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. Come hear the best acoustic jazz, rock, blues and cover bands that Pittsburgh has to offer with no cover charge. This free music night is a part of Uptown Rocks! Summer Acoustic Sessions. Uptown Rooftop Lounge is located on Fifth Avenue directly across from Consol Energy Center.

Grab your most comfortable walking shoes and get ready to pound the pavement at the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation walking tour. Tour the city's original financial district during this one-hour walking tour, which begins at 4th Ave. and Smithfield St. in downtown Pittsburgh at noon. Learn more about the beautiful buildings and unique architecture of the city featuring styles ranging from Greek Revival to Post Modern. This free walking tour is ideal for all ages.

Combine your love of art and athletics at the Warm Weather Art Walk, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. The walk kicks off at the intersection of Ellsworth Ave. and Maryland Ave. in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood. From there, you'll experience the fun of a summer gallery crawl that will allow you to tour a variety of galleries, including Wax Jewelry Design Studio, Morgan Glass Gallery and many others, as well as check out a performance by the Steel City Improv Theater at 8 p.m. There is no cost to participate in this unique art walk, which is presented by Think Shadyside.
