Two teams face off against each other in a high-tech version of capture the flag. They’re dressed in lightweight armor, carrying specialized weapons that launch paint-filled projectiles at speeds upwards of 300 feet per second. Sure, it hurts to get shot with a paintball. Although, many players claim that when their adrenaline is rushing and the battle is reaching a climax, they don’t feel a thing, at least not until the next day when the bruises begin to appear. Whether you’re a seasoned paintball veteran or looking to get your first taste of paintball bruises, the venues on this list are among the best in the tri-state area. Here are the best paintball arenas near Pittsburgh.

Riverside Renegades
298 Desdemona Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15217
(412) 462-4661

Riverside Renegades is conveniently located just 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh in the Homestead Waterfront section of town. Its popular “Renegade Package” has attracted more than a few first-timers to the sport of paintball. Included in the package is a semi-automatic paintball gun, 500 paintballs, unlimited CO2 cartridges for the entire day, safety gear and even a catered lunch. For $45, you’d be hard pressed to find a better deal.

Steeltown Paintball Park
500 Huntington Ave., Suite 202
Emsworth, PA 15202
(412) 443-9287

Steeltown offers a “splatmaster” paintball program that is specially designed for children ages eight to 11. Since most places do not allow children under 12 to participate and just about every kid ages eight to 11 is dreaming of playing it for the first time, this was a shrewd business move by Steeltown. The splatmaster program utilized spring-loaded guns as opposed to compressed carbon dioxide, reducing the speed of the paintball by half. The paintballs are smaller and the reservoir only holds 14 paintballs. For more information on the splatmaster program, click here.
