You may have already started your Christmas shopping, but as Thanksgiving passes by and we usher in Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, the holiday shopping season will be in full swing. Though Black Friday is known for its big sales and possibly even bigger crowds, Small Business Saturday has just as much to offer, with the added bonus of helping out local businesses–and Pittsburgh has plenty. To make it even better, parking will be free in all Port Authority-owned parking lots and meters for Small Business Saturday, and a number of Pittsburgh neighborhoods, like Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, and Lawrenceville, are holding their own special events. If you’re looking for great gifts at great prices, here are five places you’ll definitely want to visit for Small Business Saturday.
I Made It! Market
623 Smithfield St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15222
Some of the most unique gifts are handmade ones, and I Made It! Market is a great place to find them. The market is a “nomadic, pop-up handmade shopping place” featuring wares made by local artists, and their annual holiday market just so happens to fall on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday and will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Although they have yet to announce their full lineup of artists, the event will include over 100 of them, plus some food trucks if you get hungry.
Fired Up Pottery Studio
4151 Washington Road
McMurray, PA 15317
Get a little crafty with Fired Up. Choose one of their ready-to-paint ceramic pieces and make something for a loved one for a unique gift with a distinct personal touch. In honor of Small Business Saturday, Fired Up is once again offering a free ornament valued at $9 if you spend $50 or more.
Lizzy & Co. Beauty Bar and Salon
997 Perry Highway
Pittsburgh, PA 15237
Local salon Lizzy & Co. is spreading the small-business love by inviting other business into the salon for a vendor show on Small Business Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. Local sellers will be representing Park Lane Jewelry, Lularoe, Thirty-One, Pure Romance, and more–check out the Facebook event page for more information. Maybe get a massage or facial while you’re in, too.

The local skincare company Simple Sugars celebrates Small Business Saturday by opening up their Pittsburgh headquarters to shoppers for the day, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. During that time, shoppers will receive 20% all purchases made in person at the HQ.
235 Atwood St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15213
Many Pittsburgh neighborhoods are holding their own events for Small Business Saturday, and one of the most exciting is Oakland. In recent years, free parking has been offered in the city on weekends during the shopping season, and Oakland is kicking that off again this year by offering free parking on Small Business Saturday at parking meters and the Forbes Semple Garage to help encourage shopping at Oakland businesses. To add to the incentives, tweeting a picture of your Oakland shopping experience could win you two tickets to Phipps Conservatory, and remember to use #ShopSmallOakland.
