Plan now for your family’s Christmas tree shopping trip to Fleming’s Christmas Tree Farms located about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh in Indiana, Pa., which is known as the Christmas Tree Capital of the World. Visitors can begin shopping for their tree in late November. You might even be able to check off all the names on your gift list after shopping in their well-stocked Fleming’s Christmas Shop.
The Indiana location also participates in the national Trees for Troops program, which provides donated trees to members of the military and their families. The farm sponsors a “Trees for Troops Day” — this year on Saturday, November 27 — and hopes to be able to donate more than the 300 trees donated in 2009. Proceeds from the wagon rides, concession stand, raffles and other activities that Saturday will all go to the program. Those who donate (a $30 donation will secure a tree for the program) can also add a note to the tag that is included with the tree. Seventeen thousand trees were donated last year through the program and were distributed to families in the US and overseas. Donations can also be made over the phone.
