Summer's here and so are the heat waves and high costs of trying to keep cool. Luckily, Pittsburgh's pooling with great places to take a refreshing dip. Make a splash at one of the best waterparks and pools in Pittsburgh for a wet and wild day with the whole family.

Sandcastle Water Park is soaked in family fun. Lining the Allegheny River, the park includes seven water slides and a lazy river that snakes its way around the park. New this season, the Dragon's Den, a mystery-filled water ride includes fast, winding, roller coaster-inspired bends and dips. Also on site, an over-sized wave pool, a spacious adult swimming pool and a kiddie pool with a play area that includes short, wide, partner-friendly slides make it a perfect day for everyone in the family. The large, newly renovated boardwalk is lined by a spectacular view of the river, a jam-packed arcade, a gift shop with all necessary amenities for your day, and a variety of stands with kid-friendly favorites. Lockers and changing areas are available. Waterslide riders must be at least 48 inches tall and be able to swim. Proper swimsuits are required and must not have metal, such as buckles.

Schenley Park Pool is a hidden oasis in the city. Nestled inside the heart of Schenley Park in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood, this large, grass-bordered pool boasts an eclectic blend of city dwellers young and old who just love to play here. Just a short, scenic underpass away from an updated Schenley Park child play area and picnic pavilion, this pool offers the perfect place to cool off after a full day of fun and family entertainment. Adjacent to the park's many well-preserved winding trails, it is but a bike lock away for trail riders. Schenley Park Pool is fully staffed with lifeguards as well. A changing area is available. Both all-ages, lap and adult-only swim times are offered. Purchase pool tags in advance at Citiparks Office in the City-County Building or at any City Parks pool during normal hours of operation.

North Park Pool's spacious green area parallels the grounds surrounding it with a scenic, five-mile paved trail curved around a newly dredged lake with kayak access. Take a jog or a leisure bike ride and then cool off in North Park's crowning play space: North Park Pool. Once thought to be the largest pool in the world, the spacious, well-maintained pool features a twisting water slide, diving boards and a children's water sprinkler. Refreshing food and drink choices on site make this great for an entire day of play. North Park Pool is fully staffed with lifeguards as well. Lockers and changing areas are available. Passes may be purchased on-site during normal hours of operation. Individual day passes are also available.
