The University of Pittsburgh Panthers consistently rank amongst the top football programs in the country, finishing out the 2010 season as co-champions of the Big East. With eight home games at Heinz Field this year, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Panthers.

The annual “backyard brawl” pits these two Big East rivals against each other in one of the most heated games of the season. This year the game is being held in Morgantown, which gives fans a perfect reason to take a little road-trip this season.
Washington & Jefferson College

When it comes to Division III football, the Washington & Jefferson Presidents are hard to beat. Historically, they have 675 wins in 119 seasons of football, and have won their conference 20 times in the past 27 seasons. Their statistics are outstanding, but seeing them play in person is even better.

2010 Results: Washington & Jefferson 31 – Waynesburg 30 (OT)
Dubbed the PAC Backyard Brawl, this conference rivalry gave the Presidents quite the scare last year, as they narrowly escaped defeat with a 1-point win in over-time. Waynesburg will be looking to avenge the loss, while the Presidents will be looking to keep their win streak against Waynesburg going for the 8th year in a row.
Pittsburgh Central Catholic Vikings

High school football doesn’t get much better than the Central Catholic Vikings. The Vikings have claimed three WPIAL AAAA championships and three state championships since 1988, and have an overall win percentage of .844 in the past decade.

Much like Central Catholic, Gateway is another WPIAL powerhouse team with a rich history and dominance in high school football. These two teams are sure to bring an unprecedented level of physicality when they play each other, which is certain to make for a great football game.
Montour High School

Coming off of an undefeated regular season in 2010, the Montour High School Spartans are poised to dominate the WPIAL AAA class again in 2011. Led by quarterback Dillon Buechel, highlighted here as one of the top quarterbacks in the entire WPIAL class, this is one team to keep your eye on this season.

2010 Results: Montour 7 – Central Valley 21 (WPIAL Championship)
Heading into the WPIAL championship ranked 1st and previously undefeated for the season, the Montour Spartans were shockingly upset by 14th ranked Central Valley at Heinz Field last year. The Spartans will be playing for revenge, and the Warriors will be playing to prove that they are contenders for the crown again this year.
