Parents Angry Over Not Being Notified Of Bus Crash

Some parents in the Monessen School District are furious they weren't notified after their children were involved in a school bus crash.

The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on 9th Street near Summit Avenue. The bus was reportedly coming down the hill when a car pulled out in front of it.

One student was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Several others were taken to the hospital by their parents later in the evening to be checked out.

School officials never received notice from the bus company that the bus had been in an accident.

Some children were picked up by parents at the scene, and others were taken home on the damaged bus.

School officials are now working to create a protocol in the event that something like this would happen again. In the future, students would be taken back to the school and each parent would be called individually.

The school is also working to implement an emergency response system. It has been in the works for a while, but is not yet functional.

In this case, school officials say they never received information to pass on to parents.

The superintendent is waiting to review tapes from inside the bus. She is also working with police and other first responders to get more information.

The driver of the car wasn't injured, but the car had to be towed from the scene.

The bus, which is operated by Hill Top Bus Line of Monessen, had front end damage.

The bus company did not return calls from KDKA's Trina Orlando seeking comment.
